I paint to explore my feelings. This body of work was a way to keep in touch with my son, while he was deployed in Afghanistan. Each day, upon entering my studio, I would feel his spirit with me. Painting allowed me to find the peace in my heart that longed for his safety in a far away and dangerous place. My “Soldier’s Story” paintings depict memory paths. They recall how devastated I was when he left, and they reflect my memories of the evening when he said goodbye.

These paintings represent the turmoil of our world today and come directly from my encounter with war through the experience of my son. There are no words for me to express the joy I felt when my son arrived home one year later at the local train station. I hope my paintings inspire others to think about love, peace, kindness, war and loss.
